As the thaw gathers pace and all the ice and snow starts melting away the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) urges people who have sustained breaks and fractures after slipping over to consider how different gadgets might be able to help with daily tasks until they have fully recovered.

Special saucepan designed to help an ageing population wins student competition supported by DLF

National charity the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) congratulates the winners of this year’s “Innovation Challenge” carried out in conjunction with product design agency PDD and students from Imperial College London.
 
Based on DLF’s brief to address issues associated with access, preparation or eating of food for an ageing population, the winning team designed an innovative saucepan with improved lifting and carrying features integrated with a unique method for draining liquids.
 

Losing independence is a bigger ageing worry than dying

More people are afraid of losing their independence as they grow older (49%) than of dying (29%), according to new research released today (2 December) by charity the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF).
 
When asked about the things that concern them most about getting older, over two thirds of people (68%) say losing independence or becoming dependent on others, second only to concerns about ill health (74%). Despite the current climate and pension concerns, struggling to cope financially (44%) comes in third.
 

DLF and Opportunity Links partner to support the delivery of information on daily living equipment to citizens

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) and Opportunity Links are pleased to announce an agreement which will see DLF Data, DLF’s award winning database of daily living equipment and assistive technology, embedded within OL’s information management system, evince.

DLF compiles and maintains the UK’s only comprehensive database of daily living equipment, DLF Data, which contains information on over 14,000 products from over 1,600 suppliers.

Two new trustees join DLF's Board

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) has appointed two new trustees to its Board, Adam Little and Stephen Hickey.

Adam is an experienced finance and tax professional who spent his first 15 years of his career working for the Inland Revenue before holding senior managerial positions in the oil and gas industry. Adam worked for BP for approximately 20 years before moving into his current role as director of International tax and financial governance at Petro-Canada.

Parents of children can now access information on sensory toys, games and equipment in 'Living made easy for children'

National charity the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) has added a new section to its website ‘Living made easy for children’ that provides information and impartial advice on toys, games and equipment for sensory stimulation for families with children with disabilities.

‘Living made easy for children’ (www.livingmadeeasy.org.uk/children) was launched in April 2009 and is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families .

DLF announces Programme for Moving & Handling People 2010

DLF’s annual CPD accredited Moving & Handling People conference is the major event in the moving and handling calendar. The programme recognises the important role that workers have to play in safeguarding the well-being of those with reduced capabilities whilst maintaining their own health and safety in practice and promoting a safe and healthy workplace.
