Introduced in the UK in January 1988. Following many months of research and fact-finding it became the first force-wide scheme. In the meantime the charity, Community Action Trust, had already been set up by several businessmen, led by Lord Michael Ashcroft. Crimestoppers was the scheme adopted by the charity and a few businesses subscribed funds to get the project started.
