At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the risk factors inherent in elderly falls
  • Discuss how these risk factors may be practically managed
  • Understand the physical mechanism of falling
  • Explain the psychological impact of falls on people in general and the elderly in particular
  • Be aware of recent research into falls and fall management
  • Compile a list of options regarding the ongoing management of elderly falls
  • Reproduce at least two methods of getting people from the floor, at least one involving the use of equipment
  • Know the resources available for assisting the elderly from a fall situation
  • Explain the importance of physical exercise in elderly fall programmes
  • Understand the impact of inherent factors through experiential learning
  • Construct basic written guidelines for dealing with elderly falls, criteria for consideration, and management
