DLF joins forces with Tunstall to launch ‘Telecare made easy’

Leading telecare provider Tunstall has teamed up with national charity the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) to create ‘Telecare made easy’ (www.telecaremadeeasy.com), a new website which offers a wealth of information and advice on equipment and services that support safety and independence in the home.

‘Telecare made easy’ gives detailed information on a comprehensive list of telecare and telehealth products and is unique in advising which products are compatible with each other and which additional solutions are required for them to work.

With telecare playing an increasingly important role in health and social care delivery, the new website will increase awareness of the potential and benefits of telecare.  Telecare consists of equipment and services designed to support independent living by monitoring environmental risks such as smoke, carbon monoxide and gas, providing medication reminders or call for timely assistance in the event of a fall. In the event of an alert, sensors can automatically connect a user to a 24-hour monitoring centre to provide valuable reassurance that immediate help is on hand.

The website uses case studies to help visitors to understand how telecare products can help them in the context of their everyday lives. Details of each piece of telecare equipment mentioned in the case study are provided.  The website also includes information on important topics such as standards, ethics and general advice for people with specific concerns e.g. falling or risks from fire or floods.

Nicole Penn-Symons, Chief Executive of the DLF, says:  “We are delighted to have worked with Tunstall to create ‘Telecare made easy’. There is little knowledge in the market within the general public about the many benefits of telecare so it is important that people are educated about its potential. DLF will continue to develop ‘Telecare made easy’ by offering online training in telecare in conjunction with Westminster City Council.”

Tunstall has also published a guidebook, Physical Disabilities and Sensory Impairments - Solutions for Independent Living to show how telecare is being used to promote independent living for people with physical disabilities and sensory impairments.  The guide was launched at the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF)'s Moving & Handling People event in January this year and is available from www.tunstall.co.uk/guides

Both DLF and Tunstall will be demonstrating ‘Telecare made easy’ at their respective stands at Naidex 2008, which takes place on 29th April – 1st May at the NEC, Birmingham.

There will be an official launch of ‘Telecare made easy’ on 28th May at the DLF’s Demonstration Centre in London.
