Parents of children can now access information on sensory toys, games and equipment in 'Living made easy for children'

6th August 2009

National charity the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) has added a new section to its website ‘Living made easy for children’ that provides information and impartial advice on toys, games and equipment for sensory stimulation for families with children with disabilities.

‘Living made easy for children’ (www.livingmadeeasy.org.uk/children) was launched in April 2009 and is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families .

This new section consolidates research by DLF's occupational therapists on a variety of toys and games used to stimulate various senses through the use of light, sound, colour, shapes and texture. Information is also provided on the equipment that may be necessary in order for children to enjoy the toys and games, such as special seating and non-slip mats.

Christine Shaw, DLF’s Chief Executive, commented: "I am pleased to see another section go live on 'Living made easy for children'. We know from our own research that parents of children and young people with disabilities find it extremely hard to get information on items that can help their child's development".

Shaw added: "The aim of 'Living made easy for children’ is eventually to bring together information on every product for children and young people with disabilities into one place alongside invaluable advice from our team of occupational therapists. This will help parents and carers and healthcare professionals such as paediatric occupational therapists to easily compare products and make informed choices about items that can help their child.”
