Miriam Margolyes to carry out DLF's 40th Anniversary Radio 4 Appeal on 4th October

22nd September 2009

On Sunday 4 October 2009, actress Miriam Margolyes will present the BBC Radio 4 Appeal supporting the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), a national charity that provides impartial advice and information about independent living.

Miriam will talk about the difference simple items of equipment can make to people's lives if they have a disability or are finding certain tasks more difficult as they get older and how DLF can help them when looking for such kit. Listeners will be asked to make a donation to enable them to continue to support people during DLF's 40th Anniversary year.

The appeal will be broadcast on Sunday 4 October on BBC Radio 4 (FM 92.4-94.6 and LW198) at 7.55am and 9.26pm, as well as the following Thursday at 3.27pm . Listeners will also be able to hear the appeal for a week after the broadcast on www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.

Miriam says: 'When my mother had a stroke in 1968, I didn't know how to help her, or even how to begin to find out. The Disabled Living Foundation exists to fill that gap and I want people to know about it, what it does and how much better people's lives can be if they use the knowledge and experience available FREE from DLF. I hope the Appeal I make will draw attention to their wonderful work.'

Christine Shaw, DLF's Chief Executive, says: 'We are delighted that Miriam is supporting DLF with this appeal. We want to raise awareness of the many different items that are available today that can help people lead active, independent lives as well as publicise how DLF can help people find such gadgets. We hope this 40th Anniversary appeal will help us to raise the vital funds we need to continue improving the lives of older and disabled people. I urge people to help us make this appeal a success by encouraging friends and family to tune in.'

Listeners can make credit card donations via the Radio 4 website (www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/appeal) or by calling Freephone 0800 404 8144 for up to one week following the broadcast on 4th October or donations can be sent to FREEPOST BBC Radio 4 Appeal (please mark the back of your envelope Disabled Living Foundation or DLF). If you are a UK tax payer, please provide Disabled Living Foundation with your full name and address so they can claim the Gift Aid on your donation worth another 28 per cent.
