DLF attends the OT Show 2016

The Disabled Living Foundation will, once again, be attending the Occupational Therapy Show, to be held in Birmingham on 23rd and 24th November 2016. As a national charity providing impartial advice, information and training on independent living since 1969, we are well known to OTs through a number of our services, including DLF-Data, our Helpline and our Moving & Handling People conferences. The DLF team will be on hand to talk about these, and visitors to DLF’s stand will be able to access a special three month free trial of DLF-Data**.

DLF-Data’s roots lie in the old Hamilton Index that sat as four large ring-binders in practitioners’ offices and was regarded as an industry ‘bible’. Today, details of over 11,000 products are available everywhere that practitioners have access to mobile data.

Unlike a basic product name or keyword search using the internet, DLF Data allows subscribers to view and compare similar products side by side and generate reports of their findings. These can include details of suppliers and local retailers, plus organisations such as charities advising on specific conditions. The reports can be printed or emailed and are often given to service users by practitioners.

MHRA alerts are included for products that require a replacement part from the manufacturer. There are also literature references alongside product classes to assist practitioners who are looking for an ‘evidence-base’ for certain types of technology.

DLF-Data is available as a web application on mobile phones and tablets, allowing professionals to access solutions whilst in consultation with service users within their own homes, a care environment, or anywhere away from the office. Its central product database is the largest of its type in Europe, not only powering DLF-Data but Living Made Easy, our popular website for members of the public seeking advice on equipment, and AskSARA, our online guided advice tool.

** The offer is available to people attending the OT Show 2016 and is accessed via a unique URL that they can collect from the DLF stand. See http://www.dlf-data.org.uk/ for details of subscription rates.
