Moving & Handling People 2008 is based on providing hands on practitioners in health and social care, and those with a strategic role with up to date information and additional skills to assist them in every day safe practice.  Those involved in the field of moving and handling clients face difficult handling situations each day that must be solved and managers also have to plan for future service delivery.  Therefore, the conference programme is designed to help delegates identify key issues to be targeted to ensure safer handling in the future, while reviewing their own practice today.

Next year’s event will focus on changes in healthcare provision and the impact this is having on both service providers and users, and practitioners in the future.

The opening presentation by Lucia Fiveash, National Programme Manager, Department of Health Transforming Community Equipment and Wheelchair Services Programme will discuss the outcome of the Transforming Community Equipment Services Project.  The aim of the project is to review the delivery of these services from the needs assessment process through to commissioning, procurement, delivery/installation of equipment and to work with key stakeholders to develop a new model of service delivery

Moving and Handing People is an annual event in 3 parts - a conference with 4 plenary and 6 concurrent sessions; 4 practical, interactive workshops and a large exhibition with related New Products Arena and Professional Resource Centre.

The programme is designed so that delegates are able to attend all of the plenary and concurrent sessions and workshops over the 2 days, in addition to having ample time to look round the exhibition and discuss equipment with suppliers.

Optional Pre Conference workshops on the afternoon of 30th January will feature new equipment and emerging products in development providing delegates with the opportunity to:

  • see and try out the equipment
  • increase knowledge on the types of new products available
  • discuss how new equipment can be used to develop safer handling solutions
  • discuss developments with experienced facilitators and suppliers
  • consider body biomechanics in safer handling techniques with and without equipment
