Law Centres Federation
Law Centres provide free legal representation, irrespective of a claimants financial position and can therefore represent clients at tribunals where legal aid is not available. Law Centres can advise disabled people how to enforce their rights under the DDA, but will also advise on general matters such as employment, housing, welfare benefits, racial/sexual harassment, immigration, education and environmental rights. Inquirers should phone the LCF for the details of their local law centre. -

Operate a telephone helpline to help adults with learning and career queries by providing information, advice or signposting on careers or learning related issues. Helpline open Mon-Fri, 9am-9pm, Sat, 9am-12pm. Learning Disability Specialist Library
The Learning Disability Specialist Library is a part of the National Library for Health. It is an online library which aims to provide quick access to key documents and evidence for health professionals and 'expert' patients looking for high-quality, reliable information. The site contains the best available evidence to support people making decisions about all aspects of learning disabilities.-
Leasehold Advisory Service
Provide free advice to lease holders, landlords, professional advisers and others on the law affecting residential leasehold property. Activities include providing free advice on the leasehold system, service charges, right to information, general management, forfeiture and possession, extending leases, buying freehold, and common hold. Advice is given on a self-help basis-to enable and empower callers to address their own issues. Lease cannot provide long term support or direct help. Publications includes advisory leaflets and lists of professional advisor. -
Lesbian and Gay Bereavement Project
Telephone counselling support for lesbians and gay men suffering bereavement, and those affected by the death of a lesbian or gay man. Helpline open Mon-Thur, 11am-5pm. -
Leukaemia Research Fund
Aims to find ways to prevent, and improve diagnosis and cure all forms of leukaemia and the related blood cancers in children and adults. Publish a series of booklets and leaflets providing information on leukaemia and related diseases. -
Life Cycle Project - Brighton
Aims to establish a cycling advisory and try-out centre for people with special needs. Provide an advisory service for individuals and professionals nationwide on cycling. Run a road show to take demonstration vehicles around disability centres nationwide. Organises cycling holidays and sports events, specialist in training people with disabilities to cycle. -
Lift and Escalator Industry Association
Trade Association and advisory body for the lift and escalator industry with 136 member companies. Aims to assist disabled people with items such as stairlifts, homelifts and lifting platforms. The Association draws upon expertise from within a range of Committee's of experts, dealing with issues such as technical standards, education and training. Wherever possible, within the scope of its resources, the Association will offer advice on any of these subjects. -
Limbless Association
Promote the general welfare and rehabilitation of people of all ages without limbs through amputation or otherwise. Provide advice and information to people born without limbs or who have had an amputation. Promote rehabilitation through a home/hospital visiting service. Membership and a quarterly newsletter (£17 or £15 by direct debit). -
LINK - Centre for Deafened People
Offer residential rehabilitation courses of one week duration to people who have become deafened as adults, with irreversible total or severe loss. Deafened people attend courses with their partner or close friend. -

Provide a free postal audio library service to disabled people. Stock over 3,500 titles for both adults and children, updated on a monthly basis to include the latest bestsellers. Can also supply specially adapted equipment. -

Living Paintings Trust
Offer a free postal library service, distributing touch and sound packs to blind and visually impaired people. Cassette tapes guide a person round a raised copy of a picture. Their albums cover a variety of topics including paintings, architecture, tapestry and birds. For children they adapt regular picture books by adding raised coloured 'feely pictures', clear Braille pages and a tape describing the illustrations. Other Picture Packs are also available. -

Organisation which aims to help people with disability and organisations to work in liasion with each other. -

Aims to increase the participation of disabled people in disability arts. -
London Friend
Offer support, information, counselling and listening support to lesbians. Run a national helpline open 7.30pm-10.00pm daily. -
London Sport Forum for Disabled People
The London Sports Forum for Disabled people is a registered charity promoting the sporting interest of the one million disabled young people and adults in the Greater London area. The LSF aims to ensure that all disabled people, including people with learning disability, physical impairment, visual impairment and deaf people, have more opportunities to get involved in a sport at a level of their choice. Promote the sporting interest and needs of disabled people, and work to enable organisations and groups to improve opportunities across the whole of the capital. -
Lone Parent Guide to Caring for a Child with Additional Needs
Section of One Parents Families' website, devoted to lone parents caring for a child with additional needs. The website includes information on the booklet 'The Lone Parent Guide to Caring for a Child with Additional Needs' which is available free to lone parents, through their Helpline service available on 0800 018 5026. Also includes a forum and a link to subscribe to a specialist e-bulletin from One Parent Families. -

Lovebyrd.com
Lovebyrd.com exists for the purpose of providing an interactive online forum where disabled adults can connect in friendship and support and hopefully find someone who shares their interest, fall in love and start a new and lasting relationship. -
Lymphoedema Support Network
Provide information and support to people with lymphoedema. Run a telephone helpline and produces a quarterly newsletter and a wide range of fact sheets. Works to raise awareness of lymphoedema and campaigns for better national standards of care. -
Lymphoma Association
National network providing emotional support and information related to Hodgkin's disease and Lymphoma. Telephone helpline open Mon-Fri, 10am-8pm.
