Provide information and advice for people interested in amateur radio. There are local clubs throughout the country. -

Act as a national voice for female survivors of sexual violence and abuse, to represent the interest of Rape Crisis and Sexual abuse services. Provide services to individual women who are seeking advice and support in issues of rape, sexual abuse and assault by putting them in contact with their nearest/local rape and sexual abuse counselling service. -

Rathbone Community Industry
Aims to improve opportunities for people with limited access to services, many of whom have learning difficulties and other special needs. It does this through a range of services including training and employment programmes, and the Learning Difficulties Helpline, which provides free and confidential advice and information to parents, carers and professionals on all aspects of special needs education, with supporting publications. -
Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association

Reach
Reach helps voluntary organisations benefit from the business, managerial, technical and professional expertise of people who want to offer their career skills, working as volunteers. This is achieved by recruiting and supporting men and women and placing them in part-time, unpaid roles with nearby voluntary organisations throughout the UK - for free. There are no age limits. Open Mon-Fr 9.30am-5pm. -
Reach - Association for Children with hand or arm Deficiency
Provide information and advice to families of children with upper-limb deficiencies. Encourages and supports research activities in areas of upper-limb prosthetics and orthotics; causes of congenital upper-limb deficiency and surgical techniques for children with upper-limb deficiencies. -
Reach - National Advice Centre for Children with Reading Difficulties
Resource centre housing 12,000 children's books and reference material for use by parents, teachers, professionals and carers, along with a selection of video, cassette and CD ROM for the use of any child that may have a reading, language or communication difficulty. -
Reach Personal Injury
Brain injury rehabilitation organisations, offering an alternative to residential centres for survivors of serious injury. Covers the UK and provide a service that delivers one-to-one personal programmes with faster and more targeted rehabilitation. -
React
Give grants to children who have potentially terminal illness and their families. For medical and domestic equipment, holidays, respite care or funeral expenses. -
Regional Disability Network
Regional network in the West Midlands run by organisations of disabled people. Allows people to comment on regional government policy. -
Registered Nursing Home Association
The Association publishes an annual reference book listing all independent nursing homes, clinics, hospices and hospitals. Provides a fee based advisory service to those who contemplate entering the nursing home field and a range of information is provided to members of the Association, including business management and nursing management manuals, a care assistant training manual, standard forms and a variety of other services. Contact organisation for details on publications. Membership is open to nursing home owners. -
Rehab UK
Runs brain injury centres in Birmingham, London and Newcastle each of which aim to place at least 70 per cent of clients into jobs or further education. -

Provide advice and support to people who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship, helping them through their problems and find their own solutions. -
Release
Provide advice, counselling and a sympathetic ear for all those who have a problem with drugs both illegal or prescribed. -
REMAP
Design, manufacture and supply technical aids to disabled people when no commercial alternative is available. Commercial equipment can also be modified to suit an individual. In some cases, it may be possible to repair technical aids that have become faulty after their warranty has expires. There is no charge for this service. -
Research into Ageing
Aim to improve the health and quality of life of older individuals. Publications include: Free 'Healthy Ageing' leaflets on dementia, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, exercise, visual problems, leg ulcers, breathlessness, nutrition, pressure sores, ageing process, falls and depression. Produce a booklet, 'Exercise for healthy ageing'. There is also a 35 minute video 'More Active More Often', of physical activity to music. This is suitable for the less mobile as it covers chair-based exercises only. Research into ageing newsletter is produced three times a year. -
Research, Education and Aid for Children with Potentially Terminal Illness
Help children with life-limiting illness, React works to give these children comfort, dignity and, where possible, greater independence. It helps them to remain in the security of their own homes and tries to relieve some of the terrible worry and strain their families experience. -

Provide services to people with learning disabilities who are vulnerable as victims and/or perpetrators of sexual abuse. Services include: Helpline open Mon-Fri, 1.30-5pm; Psychotherapy and counselling; group therapy; risk assessment; investigative interviewing, education and training; and consultancy. Restricted Growth Association
Provide support and encouragement to people with restricted growth conditions and their families, interested parties and professionals. Aims to breakdown social barriers and improve the quality of life and self-fulfilment of restricted growth people. Promote research into the causes and associated medical complications of restricted growth. -
Rethink
Offer information, advice and support about schizophrenia. Also advise on benefits, medication, rights in hospital, discharge, care and after care; campaign for a better quality of life and improved legislation for people with mental health issues. National support group offering practical help and support to people with Rett syndrome, their families and carers. Provide information to professionals. Keep a register of local groups. -
Revealweb
Revealweb is a new, easy to use web-based service that brings together a wealth of information about materials in accessible formats for people with a visual impairment. For the first time, you can find out what's available from over 200 organisations - all in one place on the web. -
Ricability
Ricability is an independent research charity. It publishes practical and unbiased guides for older and disabled consumers based on professional research. It carries out consumer tests using its Consumer Panel which is made up of over 200 disabled people to see how easy products or services are to use in reality. Latest guides cover: assistive technology, car measurements, central heating controls, childcare products for disabled parents, community alarms, driving adaptations and telephone services, using a wheelchair on public transport (includes wheelchair dimensions). Online at www.ricability.org.uk there is guidance to choosing domestic appliances and easier living, with tips and checklists useful for consumers. All the website information is free to access and download. . -
Richmond Fellowship
Housing association which runs over 60 projects in the UK providing care and rehabilitation to enable young people with mental health issues, learning disabilities, addiction and other problems to live in the community. In addition to long and short term residential facilities Richmond Fellowship runs workschemes, day centres, advocacy and community outreach projects. Through its training & consultancy Service, Richmond Fellowship provide a comprehensive range of training options for its own staff and for other people involved in mental health support and human relations work. -
Riding for the Disabled Association
Aim to provide disabled people with the opportunity to ride and/or carriage-drive. Opportunities also include social activities and holidays. -
Right Care, Right Deal
A national campaign to build public awareness and support for the need for brave and innovative solutions for the social care system for older and disabled people, their families and carers. -

Offer information and advice for anyone with a sight problem. -
RNIB Technology Information Service
Provide information on the use of technology for the visually impaired people, primarily in the areas of education and employment. Provides an information helpine service via phone, email, fax or letter - for both sighted and visually impaired people. Factsheets can be sent out, information given over the phone, or people can be referred to other RNIB departments or external services. -
RNIB Transcription Service for Individuals
Transcription service which provides a text transcription service for people with a visual impairment. -
RNIB Webpals Service
Aims to enable blind and partially sighted people from around the world to make contact and give support to one another by collating Email address' of members to create a penpal service. -
RNID Tinnitus Helpline
Aims to deal with callers enquiries about the nature, causes, treatment and management of tinnitus. Publications include newsletter published two times a year and distributed to people and organisations who work with people with tinnitus. -
Ro-Ro Sailing Trust
Provides sailing facilities for disabled people to facilitate participation at any chosen level. Ro-Ro has designed and constructed a wheelchair accessible 35 foot cruising yacht, purpose built from the outset to be accessible to all disabled people. Waterjet skiing and wave runner courses are also available. -
Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund
Aims to relieves distress or need among serving and former members of the RAF and their dependants. -
Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation
National organisation working with and for disabled people. Aim to remove architectural, economic and attitudinal barriers. RADAR is particularly involved in the following areas: civil rights; education; employment; mobility; social services; housing and social security. Produces a number of publications and operates in conjunction with an affiliated network of approximately 500 local and national organisations. -
Royal Association in Aid of Deaf People
Promote the welfare of deaf people by providing centres for deaf people and self-help groups; support for deaf people with additional needs; language and communication support through the RAD interpreting service; religious and cultural activities and pastoral care conducted in Sign Language; training and education in British Sign Language and deaf awareness/equality. -
Royal College of Nursing
Promote high standards within the profession, influences and quality of patient care. Produce publications, codes of practice and guidelines for health care workers including guidelines for moving and handling techniques. Runs a work injured support group for nurses who are or have suffered illness/injury at work. -

Royal College of Psychiatrists
Professional and educational body for psychiatrists in the UK and the Republic of Ireland whose aims are to advance the science and practice of psychiatry and related subjects, further public education in psychiatry and related subjects. Promote study and research work in psychiatry and all sciences and disciplines connected with the understanding and treatment of mental disorder. Run membership examination (MRCPsych), visit and approves hospitals for training purposes. The College organises scientific and clinical conferences and lectures and continuing professional development activities. Publish books, reports and educational materials for professionals and the general public and the British Journal of Psychiatry, Psychiatric Bulletin and Advances in Psychiatric Treatment. -
Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
Professional body and administrative headquarters for speech and language therapists in the UK. Responsible for the promotion and maintenance of high standards in education, clinical practice and ethical conduct of speech and language therapists. Holds a register of members and has an information department which deals with enquiries from members and the general public. Telephone helpline open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. -

Compiles a list of architects with experience in disability issues. Each list is made to client's requirements. -
Royal London Society for the Blind
National provider of Education, Training and Employment for people who are blind and partially sighted. Range of services offered includes a family support service which includes a purpose built pre-school and specialist support workers at Great Ormond Street and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Education from pre-school to further education, based at Dorton House School and Dorton College of Further Education. The School and College offer residential and day places. The Society's training division, Dorton Training Services, based in London, provides, rehabilitation and vocational training, whilst the Industrial Services offers employment and training opportunities in Engineering. The Society's Employment Services offers support into and during employment through its Workbridge operations. The Department also provides support for homeworkers and people employed under the sheltered Placement Scheme. -
Royal National Institute for Deaf People
National charity which aims to achieve a better quality of life for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Activities include campaigning and lobbying; raising awareness of deafness and hearing loss; Typetalk Call Relay Service (in conjunction with BT); medical and technical research. -
Royal National Institute of the Blind
Offer practical support and advice to visually impaired people. Aims to improve quality of life, combat discrimination and work towards the prevention of blindness. -
Royal National Lifeboat Institution
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution saves lives at sea. The volunteer crews are funded entirely by voluntary donations. Provides a 24-hour service around the coast of the UK and Republic of Ireland. -
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents
Aims to prevent accidents in all environments including the home, workplace, on the road and during leisure time. Aims to do this through education, training and campaigning. Publishes a range of literature and runs training courses ranging from practical skills to management and professional qualifications. -
Royal Society of Medicine
Provide a broad range of educational activities and opportunities for doctors, dentists, and vetinary surgeons, including students of these disciplines and allied health-care professionals. -
Royal United Kingdom Beneficent Association
Dedicated to helping older people remain independent by providing financial help in times of crisis, a small extra income for life, equipment such as power bath seats and electric scooters and the friendship of a volunteer visitor amongst other things. Publish a free guide entitled 60-Wise which details help and advice on a range of matters from finding help at home to staying safe and secure. -
RSA
The RSA runs a programme of projects and lectures based around five manifesto challenges: encouraging enterprise; moving towards a zero waste society; fostering resilient communities; developing a capable population; and advancing global citizenship. -
RYA Sailability
Aims to broaden the choice in sailing for people with disabilities. Strive to promote and co-ordinate active participation and welcome applications across the UK. Run a programme of activities aimed at increasing opportunities for people with disabilities to play a full role in the sailing community, and provide training both in sailing and disability awareness.
