Response to 'Daily Mail' article mentioning Andrew Marr

DLF was appalled by Quentin Letts’ thoughtless and gratuitous comments about Andrew Marr, as published in The Daily Mail on 8th May. These have attracted the condemnation of The Stroke Association and complaints to the Independent Press Standards Organisation under Clause 12 (Discrimination).

On Thursday March 17th, the second Alf Morris Lecture was given by Andrew Marr, journalist and TV presenter, and his wife, former-Guardian journalist and current President of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, Jackie Ashley.

The event was attended by many leading names from the disability world and plans are already underway for next year’s Lecture.

The Disabled Living Foundation is delighted to be partnering the Occupational Therapy Show 2015. As a national charity providing impartial advice, information and training on independent living since 1969 we are well known to OTs through a number of our services. The DLF team will be on hand to talk to delegates about our new service DLF GoalAssist and promote our exciting show offer on DLF-Data.

DLF Supports the AT Home Campaign

DLF is delighted to be a founding member of AT Home, a new campaign encouraging people to think about how daily living and mobility equipment can help them to remain independent. The commitment of the participants, including 14 Local Authorities in the West Midlands, will ensure that the importance of assistive technology is recognised and promoted to all whose lives might benefit from it.

New Location and New Opportunities for DLF

The merger of the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) with the respected disability charity, Shaw Trust, is set to create new opportunities for both organisations. Both are dedicated to enabling independence in daily life, and by sharing resources we will reach and help many more people

Time For New Thinking Urges Sir Harold Evans at The First Alf Morris Lecture

On Tuesday 10th March, the inaugural Alf Morris Lecture was given by the renowned journalist and historian Sir Harold Evans, who certainly didn’t hold back when talking about the rights of the disabled. Sir Harold’s lecture was followed by a speech by Lord Owen during which he encouraged all politicians to make the NHS a priority issue in the forthcoming election.

Update on the Disabled Living Foundation and Shaw Trust partnership

In October the Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) and Shaw Trust announced plans to form a partnership.

Talks between trustees and the senior management from both charities are now complete and the partnership is now in full operation.

The Alf Morris Lecture 2015 delivered by Sir Harold Evans

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF) is proud to announce the first annual Alf Morris Lecture. This will celebrate of the life and work of Lord Morris of Manchester AO QSO, whose achievements on behalf of older and disabled people are historically enshrined in his Chronically Sick & Disabled Persons Act (1970).

Disabled Living Foundation and Shaw Trust partnership agreed

The Disabled Living Foundation (DLF), a national charity providing impartial advice, information and training on independent living for over 40 years, joined forces with Shaw Trust in 2014.

The merger created new opportunities for both organisations and has seen the development of DLF’s essential information, advice and training. For Shaw Trust it has enabled the charity to develop its advisory services such as information, guidance and sign-posting for those it currently supports – and to a much wider community too.
