DLF's volunteers are out and about spreading the word about our vital services
Trained DLF volunteers are busy visiting local community groups giving free talks about how DLF can help individuals live more independently.
The volunteers go to local community groups, charities and other organisations to talk to people about the online help DLF can provide. Many of us know what it is to be older, or to have a disability, because it has happened to us or to someone close to us. But not everyone knows about the huge range of daily living aids available that help people live independently in their own homes.
With such a huge range of equipment available, sometimes it can be confusing to know where to start. How do you know what is available? Where do you go to buy equipment? How do you know if a supplier is reputable? DLF’s online tools provide the answers to all these questions. DLF’s advice on each item is completely independent and brings knowledge from nearly 50 years’ expertise to people’s fingertips.
The volunteers give a general talk and demonstration of the two different DLF websites: Ask Sara and Living Made Easy. The sites help people find exactly what they are looking for and compare different versions of the same item.
The volunteers also take some examples of the daily living aids available to demonstrate how they work – it’s a fun part of the session when they ask people to guess what some of the less obvious items might be used for! They then offer the audience a chance to spend time with them at the end for a one-to-one demonstration if they would like extra help navigating the sites.
We have a group of knowledgeable volunteer speakers available to give talks to groups of all sizes and are available to visit disabled charities, housing associations, care homes and more. Talks usually last around an hour. If this would be of help to you and your team please get in contact. Call Ellie on 07779 453187 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
